A blend from the finest terroirs of Anderson Valley, here Savoy, Wendling, and other top sites go into the bottle. Clayey and loamy soils, partly volcanic and stony. Organic and biodynamic management. Aging takes place in French barriques for less than a year with 10-15% new oak.
We are located here in a cooler side valley north of Sonoma. The region is super trendy and sought after; here in the foothills of Mendocino, the new fine wine and fine dining scene of California is emerging, and many top winemakers are trying to secure parcels here. Ted Lemon was one of the first here and therefore has these top sites. Naturally managed organically and biodynamically. Everything is spontaneously fermented in open wooden cuves, about one third whole cluster.
The Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley appears somewhat darker, more subdued, and berry-like than the bright, brilliantly red-fruited Sonoma Pinots. Ted Lemon always stands for balance here! He deliberately chooses only steep, cool terroirs with marginal ripening conditions. The tannins are more gripping and structured in the finish than in Sonoma. But also extremely fine-grained and velvety, very elegant, wonderful texture on the palate.
This is most comparable to extremely accessible, velvety-soft Burgundy.. This is New California. Cool and polished, yet engaging and wonderfully aromatic.
