Boekenhoutskloof, in German "Valley of the Beech Wood", was founded in 1776 by French Huguenots. The estate is one of the oldest properties in the picturesque area of Franschhoek. Not only is the valley influenced by French culture, but the wines of Boekenhoutskloof are also Francophile. Chief Winemaker Marc Kent regularly flies to France to gather new impressions and experiences. Thus, he has made Boekenhoutskloof an icon. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that John Platter named Boekenhoutskloof "Winery of the Year 2012". The consistently outstanding wines receive one best review after another. However, one will search in vain for star-like airs. The estate presents itself modestly, reservedly, and despite the enormous, worldwide interest – the wines are always quickly sold out – has never lost its grounding.
