Campo Lusso is one of the original vineyard sites planted in 2001 by the winery, which winemaker Luca Sanjust calls his "Grand Cru" Cabernet Sauvignon. The plot, completely surrounded by Mediterranean forest, located at about 500 meters elevation and terraced, can be reached by a steep, unpaved road up the mountain, about a 10-minute drive from the cellar. It lies right next to the medieval Galatrona watchtower, which overlooks the Val d'Arno di Sopra. Up here there is wonderful peace, sweetened and inspired by the chirping of birds. The refreshing wind rustles through the treetops.

Up here, only hand harvesting is possible, the grapes are then fermented with wild yeasts and aged for 20-22 months in new French barriques.

Deep ruby red. Ripe aromas of dark berries like cassis and blackberries with a delicate smoky graphite, cedarwood, leather, and floating, fragrant herbs rise majestically from the glass.

The altitude and certainly also the old vines give this wine its balance and freshness. The tannins are ripe yet still firm – the wine can definitely be forgotten in the cellar for a few years! Petrolo has rightly become one of the most exciting wineries in Tuscany in recent years!

Petrolo

The Petrolo winery is located in Val d'Arno di Sopra, which stretches between Florence and Arezzo, just like Podere Il Carnasciale.

The quality of the vineyards, located in the hills west and east of the Arno River, was already described as particularly outstanding in 1716 by Duke Cosimo III of Medici and declared among the four best areas for wine and olive cultivation. The gently rolling landscape is characterized by Mediterranean forest alternating with vineyards and olive groves.

In 1947, the winery was sold to the Bazzocchi-Sanjust family. Today, the third generation of the family is involved in winemaking with Luca Sanjust. Luca's grandfather was friends with Giulio Gambelli, one of the most famous oenologists of his time, and with his help made simple yet very good wine. With Luca's mother Lucia joining the winery, more and more focus was placed on quality.

Today, out of a total of over 270 hectares of land, 31 hectares of vines belong to the multiple award-winning winery. The sites range from 250 to 450 meters in elevation and are farmed organically. The soils consist of a complex mixture of marl, small stones, sandstone, and the typical clay and limestone-rich Albarese rock of the Chianti region. Yields here are minimal – averaging 20 to 25 HL. The combination of elevation, soil, and precisely this concentration of low yields leads to the unique character of the winery's wines.
