The Contrada Porcaria is made from an old vineyard at 650 meters altitude on the north side of Mount Etna. It is the most sought-after Contrada because the site produces the most powerful and complex wine. The winery owns just one hectare of this magnificent vineyard. Here, as with all Contrada, we naturally have pure Nerello Mascalese. The vines are over 80 years old. The soil is mainly loose, fine, almost sandy volcanic soil, without any stones.
As with all Contrada wines, the wine here is transferred every two months after fermentation in the steel tank, alternating between wood and concrete.
The wine has a darker color than all other Contrada. The nose alone is a sexy seduction. It smells enticingly of cherries in all shapes and colors with many floral aromas, from violets to fragrant potpourri, with a touch of tar and delicate smoky notes added. Gradually, spicy, meaty aromas develop. You can taste that the vineyard is very sunny, which gives the wine a lot of richness and density. After the delicate and velvety experience on the nose comes the punch in the mouth! The Contrada P pushes and pushes – the wine has incredible intensity and spice. Smoky, dark minerality takes center stage here. The tannins are finely structured and the freshness is almost crisply precise. Simply wonderful, very fine, very well crafted, very subtle and yet at the same time extremely powerful and gripping all the way to the long, aromatic finish.
Only 3,000 bottles are made. This is modern Sicily at its best.
