La Croix Montjoie
The crisp, mineral Chardonnays from the pilgrimage site Vézelay, located south of Chablis, were previously known only to a few connoisseurs and were considered one of the best-kept secrets in France. Due to the quality and distinctive character of the wines from this tiny appellation of just around 70 hectares, the former regional appellation Bourgogne Vézalay was upgraded to a communal Village Appellation, which will appear on labels starting with the 2017 vintage. Domaine La Croix Montjoie is the leading winery of the appellation. It was founded in 2009 by Sophie and Matthieu Woillez and today covers about 10 hectares of vineyards with stony limestone soils, where the Gryphaea gigantea fossils typical of this region can be found.
