The Bakan Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Riserva from Torri Cantine comes from a 35-year-old vine in the Ancarano and Controguerra area in the province of Teramo, at an ideal altitude to guarantee an impressive temperature range. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 290 m above sea level with a magnificent south/southeast exposure.

The organically farmed vineyards produce a soft, elegant red wine

The Bakan Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva DOC from Torri Cantine presents itself with an intense and multi-layered ruby red color, streaked with garnet red reflections.

In the complex aroma profile, the notes of ripe blackberries, sour cherries, and mulberries stand out clearly. On the palate, it is soft and elegant, with notes of black cherry, cherry, and wild berries, surrounded by silky tannins on the palate. This makes it round, full-bodied, and complex on the palate with balsamic and spicy notes, with a delicate hint of undergrowth in the finish and pleasantly almond-flavored.

A well-structured organic red wine that needs time to unfold in the glass. It is therefore recommended to open it a few minutes before tasting and serve at a temperature of 16-18°.

It pairs excellently with: aperitifs, appetizers, first courses, vegetarian dishes, red meat, and medium-aged to aged cheeses.

The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grape variety

The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a medium to full-bodied grape variety with semi-upright growth, medium shoots, rather short inner roots, and balanced vegetation. It prefers medium-heavy, deep, moderately clay-limestone soils that are well exposed in the northernmost growing areas. It requires a rather warm and dry climate for even ripening of the grapes. From the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes, a red wine of intense ruby color is produced, with a characteristic wine aroma and a dry, fruity, tannic, non-acidic, full-bodied, velvety, and appropriately alcoholic taste.

The grapes for the Bakan Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva come from a 35-year-old vineyard in Ancarano and Controguerra, cultivated organically with optimal orientation and low yield. The manual harvest takes place at the end of October through a careful selection of the grapes. The terroir guarantees these grapes daily temperature fluctuations, which, together with the winery's organic farming methods, highlight the typical aromas of the Montepulciano grapes. The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is fermented exclusively in temperature-controlled steel tanks and, after malolactic fermentation, aged for 12 months in used barriques and then refined in bottles for at least 6 months.
