Thorny Devil Grenache offers characteristic aromas and spices from McLaren Vale with a beguiling texture and a fragrance that unfolds piece by piece.
The grapes were hand-harvested from multiple locations, each of which was vinified separately, with up to 30% whole-bunch pressing. The wine was gently pressed from the skins and then aged for 10 months in old oak hogsheads (225-250 liter barrels).

Thistledown
“Every wine tells a tale” is the guiding motif of Giles Cooke and Fergal Tynan. The two Masters of Wine share the vision of a more elegant, structured interpretation of Australian wine. With access to many of the best vineyards and Gilles' experience in winemaking, Thistledown initially focused on the old Grenache vineyards of South Australia and quickly earned a reputation for being among the best in the country in this category. Giles and Fergal met on the evening before the start of the Master of Wine course in 1998 in a bar. Both shared the frustration at that time that Australian wine was considered heavy, alcoholic, and unsuitable for premium restaurants in many markets. Both knew that this did not have to be the case and set out to create wines full of elegance, richness of detail, and balance.
