In the 1980s, the Rogosky family first planted their vineyard with the grape variety Caberlot discovered by Remigo Bordini. It is a natural hybrid of the grape varieties Cabernet Franc and Merlot and is grown exclusively at the Podere Il Carnasciale winery.

This extraordinary experiment was initiated by the oenologist Peter Schilling, who extracts magic from the grapes. The Il Carnasciale was developed until the 2021 vintage just like the Il Caberlot, and only after tasting from the barrel is it decided which barrel will become Il Caberlot or Il Carnasciale. Since 2021, it has already been clear what Carnasciale will be.

This wine is bottled in 0.75 Ltr. bottles and is available a year earlier than the Caberlot. It is also a dense, concentrated red wine. Often with spicy notes of green pepper and white pepper, accompanied by red fruits and reminiscent of a chocolate-spicy praline towards the end. This 'smaller edition' is also quite grand.

The winery was founded in 1988 by Bettina and Wolf Rogosky.

After the beautiful location and the natural crossbreed of Cabernet Franc and Merlot discovered by a friend who is a vine breeder came together, Il Caberlot, was created. To this day, it is the unique feature of the winery. This grape variety only exists here.

The name has been copied several times, but one can only be disappointed by the content of the copies.

As can be seen in the photo, the labels have been manually numbered by Bettina to this day, and a strict list is still maintained of which bottles were sold where.

Back then, with the first vintages, with production quantities around 300 bottles, it was of course much easier. As always, in the standard size of the winery, the Magnum. Some vintages were even eaten by the still frequently present wild boars on site before the harvest. A horror!

Meanwhile, production is more around 3000 Magnum Caberlot, and Bettina's son Moritz mainly takes care of the winery. His daughter Carla-Elle is increasingly seen at events, and the family winery is in good hands. Additionally, there is the second wine Il Carnasciale. Until 2021, it was always vinified the same way and then selected after barrel selection. It has now become clear that it is always the same parcels that end up in Il Caberlot, and the Carnasciale is now produced separately from start to finish.

A parcel acquired from the neighbors led to the introduction of the Ottanta Due Sangiovese with the 2018 vintage.

There is now sometimes a "Ris" that cannot be called Riserva for legal reasons. First produced in the 2016 vintage. It did not go to Germany that year at all, and in 2018 and 2019 in tiny quantities of perhaps 30 bottles. (part of course in the Piemont Express)

Soon there will be an Assyrtiko white wine added. One can already look forward to it. This wine will also be good.

The Piemont Express was the first importer of the wines in Germany more than 30 years ago, and since the wines have always been excellent (and probably even got better), a few more have been added.

Vineyard area is not tiny for Italy, with an average of 2.5 hectares per winemaker, but has remained manageable to this day. With 5.5 hectares + 1 parcel of Sangiovese, spread over five vineyards. The namesake Carnasciale was the beginning in 1985. Additionally, there are Selba, Vincaie, Perelli, and Volgaia.

The oenologist was originally Peter Schilling. A good friend of my father's who set up the winery very well. Today, Marco Maffei is the winemaker.

Typical for Podere Il Carnasciale, they have long been organically grown in the background. However, they refrain from printing it on the bottles. Design demands and the self-understanding of working this way make a shabby symbol on the label obsolete.
