The Meerlust winery is located in the Stellenbosch wine region on the banks of the Eersteriver and was founded in 1693 by the German Henning Hussing, who also built the still-preserved Cape Dutch manor house in 1693. Since 1756, the winery has been owned by the Myburgh family - now in the eighth generation. The entire estate impresses from the outside, as all the buildings are true treasures of Cape Dutch architecture and are protected as historical monuments.

On 160 hectares, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay are cultivated. In addition, there are experimental vineyards with Petit Verdot, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc. All Meerlust wines are always aged in French barriques.
