Region
SicilyThis wine captures the character of the vineyard year after year in the bottle. Therefore, it is always typical of Sicilian wine from the highlands.
2019 was a good year, with some rain in June following a typically warm and dry summer. The harvest was slightly earlier than average, but the result was excellently ripe grapes.
The San Francesco vineyard was planted in 1985 by Lucio Tasca on the lower part of the slope on soil that, due to a deeper active layer and a special freshness from reduced rainwater runoff, was more fertile than the average Regaleali soils.
The cultivated area extends over about 5 hectares with a planting scheme of 2.60 meters by 1.10 meters (3,490 plants per hectare) at an altitude of 520 to 532 meters. The original substrate consists of clayey-sandy sediments with a clayey-loamy, slightly calcareous texture and a slightly alkaline reaction (pH 8.3). It is a remarkably deep, well-structured soil, although the roots do not extend deeper than 100 centimeters.
