Region
PiedmontNervis Gattinara is a 100% Nebbiolo from the vineyards of Molsino, Valferana, Garavoglie, and Casacce, located between 290-420m in elevation. The aging, long overseen by Roberto Conterno as oenologist and since 2018 as owner, takes place over three years in Botti, the traditional large wooden barrels of the region, followed by an additional 6-12 months of bottle aging after bottling. The Nebbiolo grape, called Spanna here, produces a very distinctive wine style in Gattinara, noticeably different from its relatives in Langhe. The 2019 Gattinara is characterized by the exceptional ripeness and intensity offered by the Gattinara terroir. The volcanic soils contribute to the complex aromas of dark berries, truffle, and herbs. On the palate, the wine is powerful and structured, with lively acidity and firm tannins that promise long aging. This vintage offers a profound and multi-layered drinking experience.
