One fascinating thing about Gaja's wines is that he manages to bring his own style into every bottle across all regions and grape varieties.
It's as if the collection truly comes from a single winery. Even the wines from Sicily have good acidity.
The IDDA Bianco from Angelo Gaja is a white wine made from Carricante, a white grape variety typical of the small growing area and similar to Riesling. It is aged for 12 months partly in wooden barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks. The bouquet seductively scents of white flowers and lemon balm, with elegant aromas of marzipan. On the palate, it is full of finesse and elegance, fresh and with impressive minerality. An exciting wine from Etna, entirely in the style of the great Angelo Gaja!

The family business Gaja has developed extremely dynamically over the past decades and is now active not only in Piedmont but also in Tuscany and Sicily. For Angelo Gaja, Mount Etna has always been a place of longing, and since 2015 he has been managing 19 hectares, mainly planted with the native grape varieties Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. His winery is called IDDA, the local name for Etna, and the wine is named the same, both in red and white.
Wherever Angelo Gaja has a hand in it, an enormously impressive quality ends up in the bottle. This is also true of his Sicilian project, which he developed together with the Graci winery. He bought two plots totaling 40 hectares on the south side of Etna, which, unlike the north side, is still quite undeveloped, with only a few wineries here. The Graci winery itself, like Tenuta delle Terre Nere, is located on the north side of the volcano. The south side does bring some challenges but also an almost endless amount of potential, especially for white wines.
