The Valpolicella Classico Superiore Sedese DOC from Franchini Winery combines indigenous grape varieties: Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone, and Molinara, complemented by smaller amounts of other native varieties, from the heart of Valpolicella with a modern style. Through a partial Appassimento process, a distinctive representative of its origin from the classic Valpolicella region is created. It also exemplifies the philosophy of Franchini Winery: preserving tradition, precisely interpreting quality, and bringing modern elegance to the glass.

Sedese presents itself in the glass with a medium-intense ruby red color with violet reflections. The bouquet is intense and complex: violet, blackberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry meet notes of cinnamon, walnut, roasted almond, and tobacco. Additionally, this is accompanied by mineral hints of flint.

On the palate, the wine is fresh and balanced, with intense fruit, fine spice, and a fine-grained, well-integrated tannin. The harmonious combination of acidity, alcohol (14.5% vol.), and subtle residual sweetness gives it remarkable balance, length, and drinkability.

It is a modern classic with depth, elegance, and character – ideal for discerning connoisseurs who appreciate authenticity and fine structure.

The grapes come from the vineyards of Forlago at around 300 meters above sea level, where climate and soil structure provide ideal conditions for aromatic depth and freshness.

Harvest & Vinification

The manual harvest at the end of September is carried out with careful selection of the grapes. Afterwards, the grapes are placed on wooden trays for a short, controlled Appassimento to increase concentration and aromatic complexity.
After a gentle destemming and crushing , classic red wine fermentation takes place with about 15 days of maceration. Temperature control, regular pump-overs, and punch-downs ensure precise extraction of color, fruit, and structure.

Aging

The aging takes place partly in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit, as well as in French oak barrels, which give the wine additional depth, fine spice, and elegance.

Each of the prestigious bottles is individually hand-packed – a visible sign of true craftsmanship and lived family tradition. This special care dates back to the time of Emilio Franchini, the grandfather of the current owner Giuliano Franchini, and is still passionately continued today. Thus, each bottle contains an authentic piece of Italian wine culture, created for connoisseurs and gourmets who value quality, origin, and attention to detail.

Franchini

Antica Corte Forlago is located with its buildings and vineyards in a hilly area. The vines are cultivated using the traditional Veronese pergola method (single and double) and offer a beautiful view of the valley below. All vineyards are a clear symbol of the craftsmanship that has shaped the winemaking tradition since its beginnings.

The harvest is done exclusively by hand, selecting only the best and ripest grapes. After harvesting, the grapes are placed in wooden crates, where they undergo the traditional appassimento technique (drying technique) at natural temperature for several months.

The oldest part of the winery dates back to 1460 and houses the barrel cellar, a clear testament to the region's ancient past. In silence, the wines rest and mature in French and American oak barrels.

Inside Corte Forlago, beneath the entrance area, lies an old ice cellar. Today, the old ice cellar is used as a special aging cellar for the most historic wines of the Franchini family.

The ice house, the centerpiece of the entire building, has a history spanning centuries.

These valuable bottles rest in darkness and silence, evolving thanks to the magic of time, becoming better and developing with each passing day.
