High up on the ridge of the Ayler Kupp lies the Stirn vineyard. Optimally oriented to the south and steep, the Riesling vines here capture a maximum of sunlight. The soil, covered with coarse slate flakes, is shallow and water flows quickly downhill. Therefore, the vines must root deeply into the rock to give the small-berried old vines their extract. Elegant, almost weightless with invigorating, cool minerality, the Stirn is a distinctive, great Saar wine with wonderful fine-dry juiciness and density.

Riesling is the passion at Weingut Peter Lauer. The winery in Ayl has the best steep slopes on the Saar. In addition to the famous Ayler Kupp, they also cultivate two other important vineyards in the Mosel region. The Saar "Feilser" directly on the river and the steeply sloping vineyard "Schonfels", a little further upstream. Recently, the forgotten site "Lambertskirch", just a stone's throw from Schonfels, was newly planted and recultivated.
For many years, the white wines have been among the best of the Saar. Since 2013 a member of the VDP – the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates.
Especially notable are the wines from VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN® in the dry and finely tart flavor range. In addition, exceptional sparkling wines are also produced. Some aged on the yeast for 30 years.
Each barrel corresponds to a distinctive style of maturation and a special origin. The must from designated vineyards is always vinified in the same container as the previous year. The barrel is unique.
The wild yeast flora inside "overwinters" in fine fibers of the wood and ferments the same origin again in a style comparable to its predecessors. According to grandfather's custom, all wines are marked with this number – the house number in the cellar vault.
