Behind the Giodo winery stands the most famous oenologist of modern Italy, Carlo Ferrini. Carlo's goal is to embody the ultimate elegance and finesse in his Brunello. Carlo Ferrini was born in 1954 in the heart of Tuscany in Florence. With his degree in agronomy from the University of Florence in hand, he became one of the most successful consulting oenologists in Italy within a few years. Carlo accompanied over 40 vintages and, as a consultant to more than 100 wineries, shaped not only Tuscany but the entire Italian wine world. Some of the most successful wines of the Antinoris, as well as the famous Tignanello, are thanks to him. Ricasoli, Fonterutoli, Casanova di Neri, and Castello di Romitorio, among many others, also belong to Carlo's consistently highly rated and famous clients. In recognition of his achievements, the "Associazione Italiana Sommelier" named him Oenologist of the Year in 2003; the same title had already been awarded to him by "Gambero Rosso" in 2000. In 2008, he was even named the best winemaker in the world by the American wine magazine "Wine Enthusiast." Carlo's successes clearly speak for his incredibly great talent.
Today, Carlo unites "the best of both worlds"; on the one hand, he continues to advise wineries throughout Italy, and on the other hand, he owns his own winery with vineyards in Tuscany and on Mount Etna. Two regions for which Carlo is extremely passionate and with which he can fully identify. It is therefore no surprise that Podere Giodo has developed into one of the flagships of Brunello di Montalcino. The winery is THE epitome of an almost unbelievably elegant interpretation of Sangiovese from Montalcino.
For his own winery and passion project in Tuscany, Carlo relied from the beginning on his favorite grape variety Sangiovese as well as the highest possible quality and unique terroir. He searched for many years for the perfect location until he finally discovered and purchased his first own one-hectare plot in Montalcino in 2002.
In recent years, Giodo has become one of the best and most impressive wineries in Montalcino. From the only three-hectare site, 13,000 bottles are produced, making it also one of the smallest wineries in Montalcino.
