Region
PiedmontSol means “soil” in the Valtellina dialect and is the namesake of the first exclusive single-vineyard bottling by brothers Matteo and Luca from Barbacàn. This special energy is reflected in the glass—clear, radiant, warm.
The most important grape variety here is Nebbiolo, known in Valtellina by the melodious name “Chiavennasca.” This is complemented by the indigenous grape varieties Chiavennaschino and Rossola in smaller amounts. The berries are hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented, and aged with stems and stalks for one year in 500-liter tonneaux, perfectly rounding off the sun-ripened result of the harvest.
On the nose, a delicate aroma of red fruits, violets, and spicy notes like licorice, pepper, and cocoa. On the palate, a full-bodied wine with intensity and a wonderfully long finish. A wine that, with its bright color, brings a lot of warmth—just like the radiant sun on the steep terraces in the Valtellina Valley.
Best enjoyed in a Bordeaux glass. Those with plenty of patience can give the wine time to mature in the cellar.
